My husband and I were exploring the land we own in the country this past weekend, and I was drawn to this stash of treasure being stored up. I waited for the spiritual download, but no metaphor for life immediately came to mind.
Every time I thought about this upcoming blog and pondered what I would write about, I saw this picture in my head again. Ok, but what's the message? I would ask myself. Nothing came to mind, other than the obvious discipline of storing up resources for lean times or retirement. After discussing it with my husband, he came up with a great correlation for life. (Thanks Honey, and Happy Birthday!)
Keeping a gratitude journal is a helpful practice to change or keep our perspectives in a positive, thankful place. Several of you may do that on a regular basis and I'm guessing many of you have written a gratitude list at least once before. I've done both.
What a treasure it is to go back and read about the things I was grateful for six months or six years ago. But it's especially helpful to do that on a day I may be struggling to find things to be thankful for. I never thought about it before, but those are my stored up treasures for lean times.
Today, I challenge you to go back and find some old gratitude lists and let them encourage you and bring you joy. If you can't access one, go ahead and jot down five to ten things you are thankful for right now. Store it away for a rainy day, when you may need a boost to remember all the treasures you are blessed with. Happy treasure hunting!
