Reality is only a fraction of what is happening to us all right now. The bulk of what we are experiencing is what we are telling ourselves about what is happening ... how we're framing it in our minds.
Trust mobilizes. Fear paralyzes. In this unprecedented time, nobody can take away our mental choices.
Are we amplifying the uncertainty, the fear, the confusion, the lack, the sudden loss of income and the concern about loved ones? Or, are we reassuring ourselves that somehow, this is all going to work out?
Our world has had many tragedies, multiple infectious disease outbreaks and yet, we’re still here. We’ve seen the stock market crash many times and we’re still here. Fortunes have been earned and lost. And we’re still here. I'm not saying there weren't consequences from these events, but I am saying ... we're still here.
It’s these extreme challenges that crystallize what’s most important to us and where our focus and gratitude need to be now and always.
Listen. What do you hear? I hear birds singing outside my window. I see flowers blooming, trees blooming. I have food in the pantry. The postal service is running. Water comes out of my faucet when I turn it on. My toilet flushes. My home has electricity. Not everyone can say that. My, how blessed we are!
Just for this day, most of us have everything we truly need. We are only guaranteed this one day anyway, and not even that. We are only guaranteed the very moment we’re in.
This moment is perfect, can you see that? Can you let yourself believe that?
Please tell yourself good stories.
I used this quote in my book, but it seems relevant to share again here:
“That the birds of worry fly above your head, this you cannot change. But that they build nests in your hair, this you can prevent.” – Chinese proverb
Fear will rob you of everything you do have. Worry will blind you from receiving the gifts right in front of you. You don't have to live like that.
Take a moment and pause. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes and take a few more. Put your hand over your heart. Breathe. Tell yourself this is a perfect moment. Tell yourself you have everything you need for this moment. Say out loud, “I trust I will have everything I need, moment by moment.”
If you did this sincerely, you already feel more calm, don't you? The stories we tell ourselves are real, and therefore, really powerful. Our subconscious believes everything we say and think, so again, please tell yourself good stories.
Today, keep walking out faith and trust. We already know how fear and worry are going to feel so let’s embrace faith and trust instead—this very moment. It’s always your choice.
Can you relate or do you have something to add? I would love to hear from you! Please leave a comment in the post I've started in our
FTG Reader's Group and join the discussion. Your voice is important and you may help someone else by sharing your comment.
