On June 2, I took a walk in my neighborhood and the magnolia trees were just starting to bloom. Some of the flowers were still tightly wound up in a sealed bud and others had opened all but the last two petals. I wish I could include the sweet fragrance these beauties were offering up so generously so you could smell them as part of this meditation. I am including photos so check those out below.
How are each of these magnolia blossoms in such different phases of development? It’s the same tree, the same amount of sun and they’ve had the same amount of rain and wind. Positioning on the tree could be one physical element at play; maybe one gets more or less sun then another. Aside from that, it boils down to each specific flower’s timing and the same is true for each of us.
This tree’s blooms represent all of us as we pass through phases of life in relationships, careers, family life and passions. Some of us may feel like we are still in an early bud stage in a particular area. We have what it takes to become a beautiful flower but we have just begun to develop this new area of our lives.
Others of us are beginning to open to new ways of being in this world and showing signs of progress but we have a lot more growth yet to experience. The rest are almost completely open except for a few remaining petals. We’ve been putting in the time and the work and we are finally seeing our transformation come to life.
In the garden of life, we will all bloom when the timing and circumstances are right and not a minute before. My timing is different than yours. If I tried to open up a magnolia bud prematurely, it would break apart. It would never realize its full potential. We can’t rush change. We are being prepared for what’s next and there are no shortcuts in the process of getting ready.
Maybe the preparation some of us need is spiritual, perhaps emotional or mental. For some it could be physical. I don’t know what you aspire to do or what you want to see come to life in your world, or what needs to happen before you’re ready to embrace your unfolding future. But somewhere inside, you know. And maybe the answer today is to just be still, be patient and trust you’ve done what you needed to do for now.
If we can remember that forcing things prematurely will not yield the results we’re seeking, or worse, could cause significant setback or permanent delay, may we be encouraged to be patient and stay in whatever today holds for us.
Let’s grab every lesson while we’re here. We may not understand what each lesson is teaching us, but we can trust it’s for our good and it will help us in the days to come. Let’s hold the intention of trust and patience close to our minds and hearts today.
Cheers to a great week, noticing the gifts that matter most. Feel free to share this with a friend. Until next time...
To your gifts!
Angela
