The last few days have been tough personally with sufficient reason to harbor despair. As I set out on my walk this morning, I asked God to show me something to lift my spirits.
I’d like to say that I asked in a nice way but honestly it was more of a snarky request, maybe even an angry dare. Somewhat sarcastically, I silently screamed, “What do you have for me today, GOD?!” I had barely left my front porch when He answered.
Ten seconds into my walk, I noticed the first full bloom on a rosebush bordering mine and my neighbor’s house. The stark burst of color commanded my attention and begged me to come over to inhale its sweetness.
After smelling the rose, I noticed all the tiny buds just waiting to spring forth into full bloom. Hope. Hope in bloom. Barely visible from a distance, but up close I could see the bush was full of buds waiting to blossom.
Though the wind of impending storms were rattling these baby blooms, they were solidly connected to their branches and growing stronger with every gust. These tiny buds of hope will blossom into full blooms of beauty and strength.
I found hope in bloom at the edge of my own front yard. I didn’t even have to go very far. When we look, we find, even when our attitudes are less than ideal.
With newfound humility, I prayed, “Ok God, that’s pretty good. I guess I can hang on until my blooming season too." And I guess I need to wrap up my pity party!
Everything doesn’t have to be right in our world for us to get right again with everything.
May this bless and encourage you in whatever you might be walking through today.
