We need to know what we want so when the door of opportunity opens, we are prepared to take action.
It's chilly and we're letting the feral kitties stay in the garage overnight. I open the door for a little while each morning to give them an opportunity to go outside, if that's what they want. But when I get ready to leave, I have to shut the door.
They need to decide which the side of the door they want to be on because once I close the door, that window of opportunity is gone. It’s not the end of the world though if the decision they make starts to feel like the wrong one. There will be more opportunities. I will come back and open the door again and they will get to choose again.
What a great reminder for each of us to practice knowing what we want so we are prepared to act when the open door appears. But also to not beat ourselves up if we miss it. There will always be more opportunities coming our way.
Any voice that tells you "this is the one and only shot" is telling you a lie or telling the truth as seen through fear. Taking action based on fear of loss doesn't always guide us correctly. (However, it’s often the most effective sales tactic because fear of loss is so powerful!)
Passion and opportunity are not absent of fear. Doing what we really want to do may require courage to conquer our fears: fear of success, fear of failure, fear of disappointment, fear of what others think and fear of making a permanent mistake. Our intuition can let us know which type of fear it is so we can respond in our best interests for that moment.
The greatest thing about making choices even when it feels wrong right after we made it, is the clarity that we gain. We can sit with inaction for a while and that is appropriate at times. Other times, we just need to make a decision. When we take a step, immediately we will feel sure it was the right move, or we will quickly realize it's not what we wanted. Either way, we can now take another step in the direction we really want to go. In both cases, we end up with more clarity than we had
before taking action.
What's going on in your life? Is the door open right now and you're in the process of trying to make a decision to walk through it? Are you confident this is your opportunity yet hesitant and wondering what you're waiting for? Is the door closed right now and you're trying to figure out what your next opportunity would even look and feel like? Or, are you feeling stuck or confused and you can't even see a door? I've been in each scenario too, so I understand.
All the answers are inside us. Stillness will yield the wisdom we seek and remember, very few decisions have to be permanent, as in forever and ever. We can change our minds! We may take detours but we really can't make a mistake as long as our minds stay open to learn and grow with every door we go through.
Let's enjoy whichever season of life we're in and be ready to embrace the next one when the door of opportunity appears. Change is what we can depend on and celebrate, for change leads us to the next level of this amazing, never ending journey. Onward!
