Happy New Day! Can you believe it? Another whole day has passed. Seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the New Day. Yes, I’m being a little tongue in cheek. When we get too caught up in big milestones, I think we’re just that—caught up.
It’s powerful to plan for the big picture but not to the point that we miss the joy on the way, or that we use big or long-term goals as an impossible measuring stick to beat ourselves up with.
Free yourself today and see this moment for what it is. Are you catching all the gifts it’s bringing or missing them worried about what tomorrow holds or what didn’t happen yesterday? Forgetting 2019 for a second, have you considered what you want to happen on this day?
Let’s break it down just a bit. If we were to treat this New Day with as much planning and contemplation as many of us do for New Year’s Day, what would your resolutions be? We are multi-faceted beings so remember to consider all your needs and wants to ensure a well-balanced day (which leads to a well-balanced life).
For instance,
- What would you like to do or experience in this twenty-four hour period to grow personally or professionally?
- What’s one thing you can do to improve your health?
- Is there a phone call or email you can write to improve your connection with a friend or family member?
- What could you do today to nurture love and communication with your spouse, significant other or another important close relationship?
- Is there a hobby that feeds your soul or one that you’ve thought about picking up? Can you spend five minutes engaged in that hobby or researching your next steps?
- What else would you like to see happen today in order to feel grateful at bedtime?
Imagine if we gave each new day just a little of the attention, thought and planning as some of us give an entire new year. Individual days build years. Fulfilling years don’t happen without intentional days. Intentional days don’t happen without, well … intention.
Let’s take five minutes to consider a few ideal outcomes in several areas of our lives which will determine our overall well-being on this New Day. Then let’s plan a few action steps to implement during the next twenty four hours. May this truly be our best New Day yet!
