I’m out walking the neighborhood on a brisk November morning. In full glory, fall has turned our trees into magnificent displays of radiant color, hues so breathtaking I can barely pull my eyes away. Now our lawns, cars, gutters and patio furniture are covered in these beautiful remnants of autumn.
We had severe storms come through a few days ago with vicious winds that ripped many of the remaining leaves from the trees. As I watched a neighbor raking his leaves, I suddenly realized nature threw her own party and sprinkled confetti everywhere. It made me think about having to clean up the mess after any big event. We think, “Wow, this is a lot of work. Was it worth it?” And without hesitation we answer, “Yes!”
Many times we may become so overwhelmed that we question if something is worth the work it takes before, during or after. A job, a goal, a relationship. Rewards don’t come without sacrifice and hard work—at least not anything I have found worthy of pursuing. We could choose to skip the work but then we would also miss the reward. Put in the time, pay the price, see it through. You won’t regret it. And then celebrate by
throwing a big party! Anything worth doing right is worth celebrating, even if it makes a big mess.
