Gently Look Back, Intentionally Look Forward

Grace and Curiosity

Today's reading in Finding the Gift was especially meaningful to me. I can look back at 2017 and point to incredible personal and business successes but I can also point to places where I am disappointed with my progress.

I write about self-care and mindfulness because those are the two areas I still struggle the most. Ironically, as areas of my life couldn't look much better on the outside, I am feeling like the day to day habits which I know lead to greater happiness and peace are lacking more than they have in a while.

I want to move into 2018 with grace for where I am today and curiosity about where I want to go. Gently intentional, free of judgment. I hope you will too.

For those who may not have my book, let me share the daily meditation for December 30:

Honest Self-Assessment

If we do not change our direction, we are
likely to end up where we are headed.
~ Ancient Chinese proverb ~

The year is coming to a close. It’s time to pause, look
back, and look ahead. Am I aligning my actions with my intentions? Is my life headed in a direction I want to go?

If I want something different, do I have a plan of action to go with my desire?

Today’s a good day to reflect, always remembering,
however, this is a day like any other. If I didn’t accomplish a goal I set last week or last year, it’s not the end of the world. This is just another twenty-four hours, not a reason to beat myself up.

Re-evaluate missed goals. Are they still important?
Were they ever truly important? It’s okay—wherever we are, we got here in perfect timing.

My goals for today: accept myself, accept my life, embrace the lessons, and look for ways to turn the obstacles into opportunities. Know that it’s okay to be where I am today, and remember, at anytime I can choose to make a decision to embrace a new direction.
