This morning I was out early, walking the streets of our neighborhood. I saw the most radiant full moon on one side of the sky. It was extra big and positively glowing with
energy.
On the other side, the sun was just making its ascent. I was moved by the way it gently wafted through the trees, heavily striking the ones in the front of the forest, then dancing deep into the woods,
lighting the occasional trunk in its path.
I was captivated in amazement at the depth that light will travel—from the trees on the front row, to the ones mostly obscured by others, and all the way to the moon to
create its glow.
What a beautiful reminder that no matter where we are, even when we feel we are in the deepest, darkest woods, we cannot escape the light. It works its way in and finds us. Sometimes a glimmer is just
enough to keep us going.
As I continued my walk, I noticed another row of trees at the edge of the woods also soaked in a massive amount of sun. They were a half-mile down the road from where I first noticed this
happening. At the angle the sun was hitting the previous trees, it seemed incredible that it could also hit these trees head on, despite being much farther down the road.
I contemplated the width of the sun’s
reach. Powerfully within my spirit, I was reminded there's enough light for everyone to share, for miles and miles and miles. I don’t have to lose, so you can win, or vice versa.
I heard someone say recently, Nobody
ever receives what was meant to be mine. What a beautiful thought to meditate on frequently. If things don’t go my way, or if a relationship ends, or I am passed over for a promotion I really wanted, these things were obviously never mine and something better is coming.
We are approaching a critical decision for our nation. We’ve been here before, although the intensity seems to increase with each election. Some folks will be happy with the result and some will not.
Either way, can we remember that the light is available to us all? That half of us are not going to die next week? That goodness can find us on either side, whether we’re on the front line, or feeling obscured in the background?
Can we allow ourselves to believe deep down that no matter what happens
today, tomorrow or next week, it’s not the end of the world? (Check out “It’s Rarely the End of the World” on September 18 in Finding the Gift.)
For today, let’s remember that there’s enough light for everyone. That we don’t have to fight for the light. That wherever we are, the light will find us. May we all shine brightly this week and
beyond.
