We always see more of what we’re looking for. If
you’re shopping for white cars, suddenly all you see is white cars. I can’t explain how that works, but it works. Try it with white cars today, if you want some easy proof.
Our little granddaughter likes to count Hondas.
I never knew how many Hondas there were until we started counting them to pass time in the car. She’s up to almost 1900. I can’t stop seeing Hondas! I yell, HONDA now, even when she’s not with me. If a brain can be trained to spot every Honda, it can also be taught to spot the gifts more readily.
If you’re up for a more abstract pursuit that proves you will find what you're looking for, start tracking wonder in nature that catches your eye. Notice traffic and parking favor, unexpectedly hearing from a cherished friend or family member, a surprise check in the mail, or a blessing at work … whatever “the gifts” are for you.
If you’re willing to train your brain to find and frame gifts for you, expect to be delighted randomly today at least a handful of times. Your brain loves this challenge and life seems to like to play also. Write each gift down and see how many you notice in just one day.
I keep experiencing an internal prompt to start a miracles notebook. I want to track gifts of all sizes, great and small. I want to note when prayers have been answered, when silent wishes have been fulfilled, and how often
these things have exceeded what I had even known or thought to hope for. I keep putting this off, but hopefully sharing the idea with you will spur me to grab a notebook and just start.
(Update, I took action as
soon as I got home! I have a small notebook entitled, “Miracles, answered prayers, small delights, happy surprises and God-incidences.” My intention is to note at least two things every day.)
Finding the gift happens when we are seeking the gift.
Notice your thought patterns right now. What is
getting your attention the most? Does that feel good? You can shift your intentions and change your focus anytime you want. Instead of letting wayward focus wreak havoc on your mental outlook today, take charge and decide to notice what's great.
Good luck finding your gifts today! I’m going to conclude my writing dictation, put my phone away, and continue my own walk-filled treasure hunt.
(PS Be
sure to notice my big announcement below!)
