Have you ever searched for something using only your
hands? Where you were depending on the felt sensation as opposed to visual sight? You knew exactly what it should feel like, and what it wouldn’t feel like. Once you laid hold of it, there was no doubt, because you knew the feeling of it so well. And later, your sight confirmed it.
I keep a little piece of a fingernail file in my car console, in case I discover a pesky, rough fingernail that I need to smooth. My eyes must stay on the road of course, so I lean forward and feel around with my fingers until I locate it. It has a rounded tip and rough sides, and is unmistakable—not easily confused with a pen, a quarter, or a travel size tube of lotion I keep in the same tray.
My mind thinks in metaphors and immediately I pondered, Where in life do I have this felt sensation? This knowing that isn’t dependent on my vision?
The first thing that popped in my head is being in the flow of life. When I’ve hit a stride in something I’m doing, or when I embark on something new and get that knowing feeling of, This is right for me, I was made for this, I am right where I am supposed to be.
It’s the same great feeling as when I've been unsure about a decision, but I finally make it and I can feel in my body it was right. That is felt sensation, not judging by sight. Sometimes the sight confirmation doesn’t come right away, or it may never come. We have
to trust the feeling in our gut, our intuition, our divine guidance. We learn to know the feeling is right for whatever reason, and more will be revealed.
This unseen trust is like a muscle or a super power, and the more
we use it, the easier it becomes to discern. We are more reliably able to know which choice is going to yield a positive confirmation through felt sensation. One way to further develop this muscle is to notice how many times it’s already working for us every day.
I was navigating my way to an appointment in Nashville last week, trusting GPS to guide me there in the least amount of time. Traffic had been tricky all morning so I kept re-entering the address to see what the latest recommendations would be, as it fluctuated. Coming to another critical junction, GPS instructed me to continue east, but my gut was telling me to go west. I did a quick GPS re-check and sure enough, my gut was right. GPS re-routed
me because heading west was now the better way to go. I changed routes and saved some time.
Things like this probably happen for each of us more often than we realize. When we’re looking for signs of our felt sensation
leading us correctly, we will see more evidence of them. The more we notice, the better we become at trusting these unexplained directives.
Where do you most commonly trust your felt sensation over what your eyes can
confirm in the moment? How well have you honed this ability? How often do you give yourself credit for listening to the guidance received? Some people don’t tune in to this super power much, so if you are one who regularly relies on it, bravo!
Today, notice the places where you are following a felt sensation—physically or spiritually—and being led to exactly what you’re looking for. Pause to consider how well and how often this has worked for you in the past. Consider the times where what you knew ahead of time by feeling was eventually confirmed by sight. Resolve to trust this super power even more and celebrate all the wonderful ways that you are finding your right path, and the gifts along the way.
