Volume up! A few days ago, the wind was whipping through the trees so fast and loud, it sounded like it was raining at my house. This video is in real time, not sped up! You
may not be able to tell from this video, but not all of the clouds were moving at equal speed. Some were going at the rapid pace of the wind, while others were holding stubbornly to their position. How much effort must it take to resist winds of this magnitude?
We often experience a chance to flow quickly toward expansion in our lives when opportunities suddenly pop up, like where to live, an unexpected job offer, or a transition in a relationship.
We are invited to grow at record speed, but sometimes we resist. We hold onto what's comfortable and familiar to abate our fears or the fear of uncertainty, and try to control our future.
It takes a whole lot more energy to nurture that fear and resist the wind, than to relax and let it carry you to new places.
Readiness is key. That’s the difference-maker for change
in anything, at any age.
We are never too old, too young, too inexperienced, or too overqualified. We’re never too far gone if we are breathing. But we have to want something more. And then we have to actually let go of where we are. (Wanting is not the same as willing.)
We don't have to wait until New Year's Day to declare what we want.
Declare it today! And then be willing to go after it (or be carried to it). Come with me! I've learned many times that uncertainty can lead to a life greater than my imagination.
What if we opted to do an experiment from now until the end of the year to see where, with a malleable spirit and heart, the winds of change will take us? Are you open and
willing to leave what’s familiar for something even better? Could you embrace an expanded experience of what you have now? We already know what we have if we hold firmly to things exactly as they are.
If
you're feeling nudged to do something different, but you're comfortable and not interested in going for more, that’s okay. Grab a tree and hold on. You may feel differently later. Timing is everything.
But if
you're open to more—more goodness, more adventure, more courage, more trust, more flow, and more abundance—then simply let go. Give yourself permission and see where you land.
Don’t worry; it won't be a
final destination. We won’t reach a permanent resting place, while we're living. But it will be the new destination for the new season that's coming.
Can you feel it? Can you feel a new
thing coming? Another year is ending, and the New Year is almost here. We can grip tightly to everything we know, but we can't stop time.
This season—today— is the perfect day to let go and enjoy the ride.
To have an open mind and an open heart to rise higher and move closer to your purpose, or whatever looks like fulfillment to you. We don’t have to wait for a special day on the calendar to embrace a new direction, or a new perspective.
PS We all need help. I have had, and continue to have lots of support. I love working with people who want more out of life. If you could use encouragement, see my coaching options below, especially my online group coaching that starts in January for twenty-two days of change and forward momentum. Registration is open!
PPS What do you watch or listen to, to get yourself fired up? Where do you go for renewal? We all need a “go to,” something to raise our spirits—to soar when we’re already up, but especially for encouragement when we're feeling low and stuck.
Books, podcasts, songs, nature walks, hikes in the mountain, paddle-boarding—we have limitless options. I frequently listen to faith-based music when I walk, and especially when I paint. Today this song by Toby Mac,
Till the Day I Die definitely influenced my writing.
I felt invincible bouncing to this beat and singing the lyrics at the top of my lungs. Volume
up and enjoy! Maybe you can even let your body move, because dancing definitely helps us let go and fly. Find your thing if you don’t already have some options.
